As a Senior Product Designer, I contributed to several design systems at various levels, from day-to-day maintenance and quick fixes, to the creation, evolution, and documentation of components.
Component rework
One example was the full rework of Molotov's modal and interstitial components.
Due to the large number of instances across the product; combined with a lack of specifications; significant visual and behavioral disparity had built up over time.
These inconsistencies introduced cognitive friction for users, making interactions feel unpredictable.
Process
Audit
Conducted a full audit of all existing modal and interstitial instances across the product, identifying inconsistencies and mapping the range of use cases.
Design
Resigned the component as a modular system, where each element (title, image and more) can be combined and stacked depending on the use case and need, providing a flexible yet consistent foundation.
Specification
Documented each element in detail, providing clear usage guidelines, behavior and edge cases to ensure consistent implementation across teams.
Implementation
Worked closely with the mobile, desktop and TV development teams ensuring the implementation was aligned with the specifications.
Modular system
The component was built as a modular system, a defined set of elements can be combined depending on the use case and need.
These elements include a title, subtitle, body text, text with checkbox options, an image, up to two CTAs with an optional hint, and a link.
While the system is flexible, it follows a clear structure to ensure consistency.
The title and subtitle are always displayed together, and the image can only appear at the top or between the subtitle and the remaining content. The CTAs are always positioned above the link, which systematically anchors the bottom of the component.
